Gifting An Educational Opportunity To An African Orphan

In the fall of 2022, we had the privilege of sponsoring a much-deserving student working towards university credits in Cameroon, Africa.

Mafum Finian is an orphan who lived at Harvest Children’s Home (HCH) for many years. Each year the HCH team reaches out for sponsors for all their children who have aged out and are going on to universities or trade schools. The students are asked to write a little which is then shared with the HCH community.

Below is Mafum Finian letter for university sponsorship request:

Dear Harvest Children’s Home Partners,

I’m happy to write to you this latter in request for sponsorship for my university studies. My name is Mafum Finian, I am from the north west region of Cameroon, I am the son of late Mr and Mrs Mafum. We were the six of us when they left us to glory. After that there was no one to sponsor us in our education, so I had the opportunity with my elder sister to be taken to HCH in 2004. I have been in HCH for 14 years of which I have been able to acquire quality education, good food, health and morals. I most testify the good works of HCH in my and any little time spend there because it was all fun.

I wish to attend a private school called INIESAT University (International Institute of Engineering, Science, Arts, and Technology) Yaoundé at Simbock. It is a two-year training which I will be going in to the business field and upon graduation will receive a higher national diploma (HND) from the ministry of higher education to become a resource manager and a business planter. The school starts on October with effective lessons.

TOTAL Expenses $1,548

Thanks for the HCH board and partners for your great works. As you diligently seek God by putting smiles on our face, may the good God continue seeing you through and protecting you.

Thanks,

Mafum Finian

The ALEL team was thrilled to sponsor him for the full $1,550. We wish Finian wonderful success this year, and for years to come.

Update: A Mid-Year Report

We received an update from Finian on January 30th, 2023.

Dear sponsor I am so happy writing to you again, thanking you for your help for me to continue my studies in the university.

It is mid school year and my studies are going well, I am so glad that I had the opportunity to studying agricultural which is what I loved most, all thank to you. In early February we’ll be going for our first internship which is been intended to teach us more on plants production. There are some difficulties that I’m facing in my studies which are some  farm requirements which had to be supplied by the school and now the school says we are the one’s to buy them and also the money for the second internship in June because it has just been introduced this year.

  •   Second internship = 50,000frs
  •   Other farm requirements (cutlass, hoe, boots, watering can ) =35,000frs.
  •    School tracksuit =10,000frs

   TOTAL =95,000frs

Thanks so much, I love you and may God continue guiding you and providing for you. I love you so much

Mafum Finian
